Iverson, who has not played in the NBA since 2010, is expected to captain and play for one of four teams in the Las Vegas Superstar Challenge, scheduled to take place Nov. 12-13 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The tournament could be an opportunity for Iverson to prove he can still play with the best following a lack of NBA interest last season, which led the former MVP to a brief playing stint in Turkey.

Current NBA stars taking part in the tournament could include Kevin Durant, Amar’e Stoudemire and Paul Pierce, sources said. Iverson is expected to announce rosters and captains for the teams at a press conference next week.

As the NBA lockout approaches its fifth month with no end in sight, the league’s top stars have begun planning similar non-league events, including a six-game, four-continent exhibition.

The proposed tour, organized by an Atlanta businessman, reportedly would include Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and reigning MVP Derrick Rose. Stoudemire also has stated in interest in participating in the NBA World Tour, according to the New York Post.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the first day of the Las Vegas games are scheduled to conclude in time for the players to attend the Nov. 12 welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Marquez.
