Los Angeles school “locked down” for manhunt

Authorities issued a security alert on Friday at an elementary school in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles as police searched the vicinity for a murder suspect, police and school officials said.

The Carpenter Elementary School was placed on a “lockdown,” meaning the campus was closed to outside visitors and students were confined to classrooms, shortly after 11 a.m. local time, said a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
