After months vacillating on the fate of large-capacity raves in the city, the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission voted on Wednesday (12/1) to institute new rules for rave promoters rather than reinstate a ban on rave events.
The ruling comes almost five months to the day after the death of a 15-year-old girl who overdosed on Ecstasy at the Electric Daisy Festival. The massive event, held at the city-owned Memorial Coliseum, drew a reported 185,000 people over two days, a larger daily draw than this year’s largest-ever crowd at the Coachella (an estimated 225,000 across three days).
Over 200 people required hospitalization from injuries and overdoses sustained at the Electric Daisy festival.
