New archbishop of Los Angeles

The 58-year-old Gomez, who holds a doctorate in Sacred Theology and an accounting degree and a B.A. in Philosophy, was introduced as coadjutor archbishop of Los Angeles during an at-times emotional press conference at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Tuesday, April 6. Gomez will train under Cardinal Roger Mahony until the latter figure retires next February at the church-mandated age of 75.
